Description | The Bethany Colored Apes are mentioned in the September 14, 1876 issue of the Pulaski Citizen, along with the Bunker Hill Colored Flys, the Elkton Colored Monks, and the Pulaski Colored Rifles. They played at Elkton, TN. The text mentions that they were previously known as the Colored Bengal Tigers. "The Bethany colored Apes and the Bunker Hill colored Flys played two games of Base ball at Elkton last Saturday, resulting in 27 to 6 and 20 to 14, respectively, in favor of the Apes. A game was then played betwen the Elkton colored Monks and the colored Flys, resulting in victory for the latter by a score of 16 to 6. This was the first game ever won by the Flys and they were cheered lustily. A game was then played between the colored Apes and the colored Monks, resulting in victory for the Apes by a score of 13 to 3. The Apes boast that they have never been beaten except by the Pulaski colored Rifles. The colored Apes then went by the name of the colored Bengal Tigers we believe." |

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know
Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
