Description | The Peoria Daily Transcript, April 26, 1862 reports: "A number of young men met at Roswell Bills' office last night and organized a base ball club under the name Olympic Base Ball Club. The following officers were elected: President, Alphonse Goodrich; Vice Pres., E. C. Ely; Secretary, J. H. Stevison; Treasurer, Arthur H. Rugg. The club meets at the State House Square for exercise." Same May 17, 1862 gives the roster of the club. P. C. Wheeler is captain 1st nine; A. Goodrich captain 2nd nine. These were the 2 nines that played the 39-39 game that day, said by the paper to be "probably the first game of this new sport ever played in Peoria." Thanks to Jonathan Wright of Peoria Magazine for sending me the newspaper transcripts. The Chicago Tribune, Sept. 13, 1866 reports that the Olympic Club of Peoria played at the baseball tournament in Bloomington. |

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know
Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
