Description | The Daily Iowa State Register Oct. 18, 1866 reports on a state base ball tournament, involving the following clubs: Burlington Crescent, Mechanics, Orchard City and Westerns; Scott Club of Davenport; Hawkeyes of Mt. Pleasant; and the Actives of Ottumwa. The Daily Iowa State Register July 23, 1867 reports that the Scott Club of Davenport lost to the Wapella of Rock Island, and gives a box score. Same Sept. 5, 1867 notes that the Scott club was playing in the Rock Island County Fair base ball tournament. Davenport IA (1860 pop. about 11,200; 1870 pop. about 20,000) is on the Mississippi River across from Rock Island, and about 150 miles west of Chicago. |
