Description | The Davenport Daily Gazette, Oct. 12, 1866 reports that the Scott and Union clubs of this city will play at the grounds, corner of 16th and Ripley Sts. Same Sept. 13, 1866 notes a meeting of the Scott BBC. See also same, July 1, 1867. The Daily Iowa State Register Oct. 18, 1866 reports on a state base ball tournament, involving the following clubs: Burlington Crescent, Mechanics, Orchard City and Westerns; Scott Club of Davenport; Hawkeyes of Mt. Pleasant; and the Actives of Ottumwa. The Daily Iowa State Register July 23, 1867 reports that the Scott Club of Davenport lost to the Wapella of Rock Island, and gives a box score. Same Sept. 5, 1867 notes that the Scott club was playing in the Rock Island County Fair base ball tournament. Davenport IA (1860 pop. about 11,200; 1870 pop. about 20,000) is on the Mississippi River across from Rock Island, and about 150 miles west of Chicago. |
