Description | Several base ball games were played in honor of the Fourth of July in Galion. The first game was played between the Independents of Mansfield and the Non-pareils of Galion--the Independents being victorious 55 to 13. The second game was between the Mohicans of Mansfield and the Stars, of Bucyrus. This was the best contest of the day, with the Mohicans being victorious 38 to 25. The next game matched the Resolutes of Galion and and the Capitals of Columbus. In the fourth game, the Capitals of Columbus beat the Mohicans of Mansfield 24 to 9--owing to the fact that Mansfield pitcher Rowland being sick and the umpire not allowing him to be substituted for by Hades. The Mohicans also defeated the Crestline Young America's 24 to 6. Mansfield Herald, July 8, 1868 |
