The Daily Fort Worth Standard, March 4, 1877, reports that the base ball club (presumably the Fort Worth Base Ball Club) is to play a game this evening "on a ground about 150 yards beyond the freight depot." Same April 6, 1877 reports that on April 5 the "home club" under Captain Simms (B. B. Simms, clerk of the Texas Pacific Railroad) lost to the Gate City BBC of Texarkana 41-20. Same, April 30, 1877 reports that Fort Worth defeated Dallas 17-12. Same June 15, 1877 reports Fort Worth 14, Dallas Stars 7, with the "Panther Boys" (Fort Worth) claiming the state championship.
