The Lincoln Nebraska State Journal, May 20, 1870 reports that base ball is being played at "the grounds east of the University."

The University of Nebraska was established in 1869, and opened in 1871. At this time University Hall was located at the north side of R Street, between 10th and 11th (on the modern university grounds).

Lincoln was incorporated in 1869. It was located at the former tiny village of Lancaster.
