Description | Leavenworth Weekly Times, June 1, 1876: "The 'Uncle Sams' base ball club and the 'Amateurs' had a matched game on Sunday last, for a keg of beer. The 'Amateurs' won the game by two scores. The result was a jolly good time at Fort Dodge on Sunday evening." Fort Dodge is about 5 miles east of Dodge City, KS. It is presumed that the Uncle Sams were composed of soldiers stationed there. It is not certain that Dodge City residents participated. |
