Description | Chicago Inter Ocean, Aug. 14, 1877: "Oakland. The Oakland Base Ball Club defeated the Aldines on Saturday by a score of 17 to 11." Oakland was a development south of Chicago, originally Cleaverville, renamed in 1871 after the new local railroad station. At this time it was in Hyde Park Township. This "elite neighborhood" later (1889) became part of Chicago. It's located on the Lake, near 41st St., East of Bronzeville. In 1887 there existed an Oakland Rifles BBC. See the Chicago Inter Ocean, Sept. 4, 1887. |
