Description | The Syracuse Base Ball Club, reportedly formed "a few weeks before" an October 6, 1858 newspaper article that reported on an early intramural game. It also played an intramural game on about October 21, 1858. This game, reported by Porter's Spirit and by the Clipper, WNY table) compiled by Craig Waff. The SBBC was evidently the first club in Syracuse to play by Association rules. Those 17 rules, adopted in 1854, had been printed the Syracuse Standard in May 1855. In September 1860, a Syracuse paper said that the SBBC were "the champions of the field in Central New York. They have beaten the champion clubs of Oswego, Madison, and Cayuga Counties." |

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know
Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
