Description | William D. McCain’s "The Story of Jackson" (1953), p. 212 asserts that in 1870 the Lone Star and the Capital Clubs of Jackson played the Pelican club of nearby Canton. See Weekly Mississippi Pilot, July 16, 1870: "Canton has a new base ball club." Same, Aug. 20, 1870 has Jackson playing Canton. Canton MS (pop. about 13,000)is about 20 miles N of Jackson. |
