Description | The Jacksonville Republican, September 23, 1871, reported that on the 30th the Jacksonville Base Ball Club will play the Calhoun College (of Jacksonville) picked nine. By 1872 the Jacksonville club was calling itself the “Merry Nine.” Jacksonville AL (current pop, about 12,500) is about 70 miles NE of Birmingham and about 25 miles from the GA border near Atlanta. |
