Description | The Amigoe di Curacao, Dec. 5, 1934 announces the formation of the Curacao Baseball Federation. One Hector Suares made the announcement. This 1934 founding date is recognized in postage stamps, and in Adam Rittenberg's "Off the Beaten Basepath" blog. The Aruban newspaper Observador, Jan. 17, 1962 notes the "Baseball di Corsow" Association, with Juan Isa as president. Nauright and Parish, "Sports Around the World," p. 64: "Baseball was brought to Aruba and Curacao, which sit just off the coast of Venezuela, in the 1930s ... [by] Venezuelan political refugees and oil refinery workers.." Seabees of the 30th Naval Construction Battalion formed a BBC in Curacao in 1943. Aruba and Curacao were Dutch colonies at the time. Today they are "constituent countries" in "the Kingdom of the Netherlands." |
