"Dawsons Win Ball Game

It Ends With a Score of 14 to 6 [ed note, box score in paper indicates 14 to 5]

Good Play on Both Sides

Dawsons make five runs in one inning and four in another-McCormick's Home Run for NC Team [ed note, this is the Commercials, known in several articles from earlier in the spring of 1902 as only the NC's]-Exasperating Delay Before Game is Called

By a score of 14 to 5, the Dawson baseball team won a victory over the N. C. team. In one inning the Dawsons made five runs, and in another four, while the Commercials have one home run to their credit.

The play on both sides was very good for so early in the season, with players strange to each other. The crowd was very large, many, many more people being present than to any sporting event since last summer, if indeed as large a crowd attended at any time even then. There was an exasperating delay at the start, all because one of the captains did not show up, and the whole crowd, including many ladies without parasols, had to wait in the hot sunshine for an hour. In the meantime the other sports schedule to follow the ball game were pulled off.

At about 5 o'clock, when the game finally started, the Dawsons won the toss-up and Nelson went to bat. He starts the fun with a high fly, and while on third Doyle steals the base and is crowded back. Chadwick fails ot make first and all three go out. Russell makes first on balls and scores. McCormick strikes out. Boyer out on First. Hope is safe on first and steals second and third. Stevens makes second on a liner. Hickey strikes out.
