Description

The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Nov. 5, 1943, under the headline "Ecuador in World War II" reports on baseball in the capital city of Quito, and adds that "In the last two years 15 teams have been organized in Guayaquil." Evidently the US Consul there had helped furnish the locals with equipment.

The existence of Guayaquil baseball teams is confirmed in the Portland Oregonian, April 9, 1944, in an article titled "Global Bush Program Eyed". "Pres Ray Dumont of the National Baseball Congress" announced plans for a world sandlot baseball tournament, with a team in Guayaquil, Ecuador, among the invited. The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Jan. 17, 1945, notes that the famed local architectural firm of Osborn Engineering Co. is drawing up plans for a baseball stadium in Guayaquil.
