Description | American soldiers and sailors stationed in Belgium and Europe formed a baseball league in 1919, with the club from Brussels winning the "pennant." Reportedly the locals were interested enough to watch the games. Teams from Brussels and Antwerp, Rotterdam and The Hague, Danzig and Hamburg competed. Chetwynd, "Baseball in Europe," p. 74, citing "Belgium Likes Baseball: Brussels wins Pennant in Seven-Club Circuit Overseas," New York Times, Sept. 14, 1919. |
