Description | The Hillsdale Standard, Aug. 14, 1866: "Base Ball--In response to an invitation, Baw Boese B. B. Club visited Hudson on Friday afternoon last, to meet Wolverine Club of that place, to play another game." The box score shows Hillsdale losing 52 to 31, but the article notes that Hudson brought in some out-of-towners, and claims that Hillsdale has the better "native" team. The nickname appears to be a play on the words "Ball Boys". Same Aug. 4, 1868 has the Valley City Club of Hillsdale beating the Central City Club of Jackson, MI, 81 to 32, at the "Fair Gronds' last Wednesday. |
