Same, July 22, 1868 has this Spartan Club defeated by the Athletics of Portland. Eberle, "Baseball Takes Root in Oregon, 1867- 1869" says this club existed in 1867, and its players were formerly of the Wide-Awake BBC. The 1869 Portland City Directory, p. 21 says the Spartan club was org. Aug. 1, 1867
