The Cheyenne Daily Leader, Aug. 23, 1873 has the Modocs playing the 4th Infantry, Fort Russell, on grounds south of the Railroad House.

The UP Railroad House was the finest Hotel in Cheyenne. It was just east of the railroad depot, by the tracks at the foot of Ransom (now Central) Avenue. The grounds to the south of this hotel were open in 1871. Earlier games may have been played here.
