Text | "On Saturday last [May 29] a Game of Ball was played between the Sophomore and Freshmen Classes of Williams College. The conditions were three rounds of 35 tallies - best two in three winning. The Sophs won the first, and the Freshmen the two last. It was considered one of the best contested Games ever played by the students." The best-of-three format is familiar in the Massachusetts game. Note: does the final sentence imply that earlier games of ball had recently been played? |
