Description | http://bloggerdeadwood.blogspot.com/ says that the Deadwood Base Ball Club elected its officers on June 25, 1878, citing newspaper accounts. The Black Hills Daily Pioneer (Deadwood) June 25, 1878 reports that the Deadwood BBC organized the night before, with Dr. Charles W. Meyer elected president, and E. W. Hurlbut, captain. Same June 29, 1878 says this club will play the Central City BBC at Spearfish on the 4th. Same, June 30, 1878 reports the Lincoln BBC of Deadwood has issued a challenge to all Black Hills clubs. Same club under a different name? It appears baseball was played in Deadwood in 1877. The Black Hills Daily Times, June 26, 1877: "Base ball fever has at last reached Deadwood." Same June 17, 1878 reports on a game where the Stars of Deadwood defeated the Rough and Ready of Central 32-26. |

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know
Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
