Nick Name Clackamas Base Ball Club
Earliest Known Date 1866 -- June - September
Location Oregon City, OR, United States
Description

"Base Ball in Oregon." . . . There is also a club at Oregon City called the Clackamas Club."

Charles Peverelly, The Book of American Pastimes, page 497.

Information gleaned from articles in Portland's Morning Oregonian:

  • Oct 15 article: The Clackamas club formed after the Pioneer club. This would place their formation no earlier than June, as the Pioneer club elected officers on June 2, 1866. (June 5 article)
  • Sep 24 article: The Clackamas club obviously formed before an intrasquad match on September 22, 1866. Their first match against the Pioneer club was played 3 weeks later.

In a baseball tournament played October, 1867, at the Oregon State Fair in Salem, the Tumwater and Clackamas BBCs of Oregon City competed. See the Portland Morning Oregonian, Oct. 10, Oct. 14, 1867

The Oregon City Enterprise, Oct. 27, 1866 reports on a game played Oct. 13th between the Clackamas and the Pioneer of Portland, the latter winning 77-45. Gives a box score.

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know

Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
