Description | The New Orleans Times, Jan. 14, 1867, lists a number of local base ball clubs, including the Robert E. Lee, Creole, Pioneers, Hope, Crescent and Palmetto. The Lees lost to the Mutual of NYC 15-8 in 1869 (New Orleans Times, Dec. 1, 1869). In 1870 they played the Lone Star of New Orleans (Beadle's 1870, p. 59). By that time they and the Lone Star were considered the city's two top teams. The team was named after the famous Confederate general. |
