The Sumter Republican July 15, 1870 reports that Captain Anthony's nine are to play Captain Hawkins' nine, the winner to challenge the "Phat" nine of Americus, Tom Bryant, Captain, for the championship of southwest Georgia.

Americus is in Sumter County. It was/is the site of the Andersonville prison camp.
