Description | The Cleveland Leader, July 4, 1870, has details: "Base ball has found its way to Switzerland. A game was played at Zurich a short time ago, between two clubs called respectively the Brettauer and Decker clubs, in which the latter organization was successful by a score of 35 to 18 in six innings."
This news item was picked up by, inter alia, Leslie's Illustrated 7-23-70 and the Memphis Daily Appeal, 7-12-70. The Seymour (IN) Times, July 26, 1870: "A party of Americans at Zurich, Switzerland ... [recently] organized among themselves a base-ball club, with two nines, and played a match game."
