Description

The Donaldsonville Chief, Sept. 14, 1872: "Burnside Base Ball Club--In addition to four musical and one dramatic organization, Donaldsonville can now boast a base ball club." It was organized "last Monday evening" by 13 people. C. A. Younger elected president, L. E. Bentley VP. Club named for local planter John Burnside.

This newspaper extensively reported on baseball the next two years.

The Donaldsonville Chief, Sept. 20, 1873: "Base Ball Notes" reports that the Burnside Club of Donaldsonville is to play the Independent Ranger Base Ball Club of the New River Region.
