Description | The Donaldsonville Chief, Oct. 19, 1872, reports: "The first nine of the Burnside Base Ball Club will play their initial match game to-morrow with a picked nine of Assumption [Parish] players at the town of Napoleonville." Same, Oct. 26, has a big article on this game. The Burnside lost, 44-14. They complain that the field was surrounded with cockle-burr bushes, so when balls were hit into the bushes it took several minutes to find them. |
