The North Otago Times, Sept. 27, 1881, in an item dated Christchurch, Sept. 26th: "The first game of base ball ever seen here was played on Saturday at Christ's College."

Christ's College is an old school located in Christchurch. This may be the first recorded game ever played on the "South Island" of NZ.
