Description	According to the anonymous log keeper of the Black Eagle out of New Bedford, Massachusetts, the ship’s crew played baseball on back-to-back days—November 22 and 23, 1862—while wintering at Depot Island in Hudson Bay. The Black Eagle had been locked in the ice since September 1862 with 10 other whaling ships. The crew played their first game in the downright frigid temperature of -22°F (or -30°C), although the log keeper noted it was a clear day. “Saturday Nov 22 This twenty from hours Light Air Went on board with clear Weather all employed in playing ball all well on board Ther 22 degs B L 0.”
