Description

The [Plymouth, IN] Marshall County Democrat, April 24, 1856 reports on the "sudden death" last week of a young man who lived in or near Bourbon. "He had been playing ball, and ten minutes after he had laid his ball club down, he was dead."

Unclear what game this is, but the same newspaper in 1868 (see protoball entry for Plymouth) said town ball had been played in the vicinity for 40 years.

Same May 20, 1859 reports that on Saturday last, the fire company of Plymouth challenged and played 32 citizens "to a game of ball on the public square." It's even less clear what game this was.
