<p>The November 7th game was among the members of the Augusta Base Ball Club, which had been organized in 1859. The captains of the two nines were two youthful native sons and cotton brokers, Joshua J. Doughty and James J. Russell. Doughty (1841-1914) went on to serve as a lieutenant in the Confederate artillery, then onto a long career as one of Augusta’s leading citizens, while Russell (1843-1924), the son of a wealthy merchant, served as private in the 7th Georgia Cavalry and owned a cotton-buying business postwar. Other players included banker Adrien C. Ives (1829-71), and accountant William C.
