Description | Colin D. Hall, "Northern Sandlots: A Social History of Maritime Baseball", pp. 35, 24: "Baseball had been played in Saint John as early as 1853, but during the 1860s it became dormant... By 1874 a number of Saint John baseball teams, including the Invincibles, the Mutuals, the Saint John's, the Shamrock, the Athletes, and the Royals, were playing each other..." and other city's teams. In 1872 the Saint John Baseball Club abandoned the modified "New England" rules and started playing local teams. They played Bangor, Maine in 1873. |
