The Cheyenne Leader, Sept. 6, 1869, reports on a Sept. 4th game at Fort Russell between Company H, 9th Infantry, and the Wyomings of Cheyenne, won by Cheyenne 38 to 31. Cheyenne was founded in 1867, and was/is the state capital. It had 1,450 residents in 1870.
