Description

The Janesville (WI) Gazette, Aug. 23, 1876, reports that the Muffers of Petersburg lost to the Arctics of Tallula, at Petersburg, 7 to 3.

The Springfield Illinois State Journal, Sept. 12, 1876, reports on an excursion and picnic of the Springfield Baptists to Petersburg, where a Springfield "picked nine" will play the Petersburg base ball club. The Chicago Tribune, Oct. 27, 1878, reports that the Petersburg Brown Stockings have disbanded. Same, Aug. 13, 1878, reports that the Petersburg Browns beat the Havana Reds 13 to 8. Same June 22, 1879, reports that the Browns have reorganized, and gives the names of their players.
