Description

Chicago Tribune, Aug. 7, 1867 has an extensive report of the Red Jacket's match with the Empire of Champaign, at Champaign Aug. 2. Gives a box score. 2000 spectators. Probably played at the Champaign County Fairgrounds, where a baseball tournament has held that October at the county fair.

The fair grounds were the site of an 1870 game between the Empire and the Liberty of Springfield. See The Champaign County Gazette, June 29, 1870
