Description | The Kankakee Gazette, May 26, 1870: "A new base ball club was organized last Monday evening under the name of the Cossayuna Base Ball Club, with the following management:" Article goes on to name James H. Paddock, president; C. R. Ashley, vice president; H. Whittemore, captain 1st nine; and Frank C. Loving, asst. captain and Sec./Treasurer. The new team intends to challenge the Grove City team of this city. Cossayuna is the name of a lake in New York. It is otherwise unknown where the name comes from. James H. Paddock (bc 1850) later was secretary of the IL State Senate. |
