Description | The Pithole City Daily Record, April 21, 1866, reports that last evening, at Brady's office, the Pithole Base Ball Club was organized with Captain E. H. Brady elected president. Same May 9, 1866 reports on an intersquad game of this club, and gives a box score. Same Sept. 7, 1866: "Base Ball--the Stella Base Ball Club will have a practice game this afternoon... on the old ground of the Pithole Base Ball Club, at 2d street." Pithole City (Pithole) was an oil boom town, platted May 1865, incorporated Nov. 30, 1865. It soon had 20,000 residents. When the oil ran out, it was abandoned (237 residents in 1870) and is today a ghost town. |
