Description | According to Hitchcock's History of Scranton, the 1866 grounds were on "lands of the Lackawanna Iron and Coal Company, on the low grounds between the bluff fronting Mifflin Avenue and the Lackawanna River." In late 1866 a railroad laid a track across these grounds, which were east of the river. The 1867 grounds were west of the river, on the lands of Ira Tripp, on what was then the Scranton race course, on Diamond Flats, bounded by the River on the east, the bluffs on the west, Court St. on the north and Providence St. on the south. After reviewing old maps, this appears to be about where the modern Valor Field/Veterans Memorial Stadium is, 816 Providence Rd. |
