Text | Will you please answer the following query in the column devoted to the National Game? There was a player on third base trying to get home, and a strong batter at the bat; the batter knocked a very high ball down to the centre fielder, who caught the ball, putting the batter out. The man on third ran in, and touched the home plate before the ball was caught. Was he out? The Umpire decided he was. There had been one player out before this ball was knocked, and the centre fielder threw the ball to third base, claiming a double play.
