Description

The San Francisco Daily Evening Bulletin, Nov. 22, 1866, says that there will be a match game in Virginia City on Nov. 29th for the city championship, between the Virginia and Northwestern clubs.

Baseball was played here as early as 1864. See the Marysville (CA) Daily Appeal, June 7, 1864: "The game of Ball is popular in Virginia City. Base Ball is among the most healthful and innocent of field sports."

Virginia City NV (1860 pop. about 2,300; 1870 pop. about 7,000; ) is about 10 miles NE of Carson City. Its current pop is about 850.
