Text | A statement is made in the New York Clipper that Carey, the umpire of the Philadelphia-Athletic game, declares that prior to the game the captains of both nines requested him to umpire under the old rules, and that, if this is so, the game is null and void. We don't think it will amount to much, however, even if this be so, for every year we hear of a dozen alleged violations of the rules, which amount to naught. |
