"The Knickerbocker Base Ball Club opened the season last Thursday, on its ground in the Elysian Fields, Hoboken. Its plays days have been changed from Tuesday and Friday to Monday and Thursday of each week."

Notice in the newspapers of the doings of the Knickerbocker Club was rare at this time. Five years later, the Sunday Mercury would become the first to cover the new game on a regular basis.
