Description | The Chicago Tribune, July 22, 1888, reports on a picnic of the employees of Fraser and Chalmers (mining machine mfrs.) at Turner Park, which featured baseball games. Turner Park was/is immediately northwest of the modern train station, bounded on the east by what is now Thatcher Road. River Grove was incorporated in 1888 from Turner Park (a well-known picnicking area for Chicagoans), Cazenovia, and surrounding areas. It had 287 residents in 1890. |
