Comment | Note: The location of this game is not specified. Note: Tom Shieber of the Baseball Hall of Fame writes: "[T]his gilded [trophy] ball unquestionably features a figure-eight seam pattern. Of course, there’s no guarantee that a trophy ball is the actual ball used in the game it commemorates. Conceivably, a trophy ball might be damaged/lost/disposed/etc. and later replaced with a replacement trophy ball. Thus, this ball might commemorate the 9/5/1866 game, but actually have been made and gilded many years later. If I am not mistaken, I recall having run into this scenario once before (though details escape me), but I would say this is a rare occurrence at best. Anyway, I thought I had better mention it".
