Text	Quarters had been provided for the Experts [of Philadelphia] at a first-class hotel, the proprietor of which had furnished them with well-located, suitable and reasonable room, six of them being domiciled together in three communicating rooms on the third floor, while the balance were located elsewhere. The main on entering the rooms yesterday morning, was surprised to notice them in a state of considerable confusion. Pitchers and washbasins were broken, water spilled over the floor, two panels of the door kicked in, the frames broken and mosquito nets cut to pieces, feather beds and pillows cut open and the feathers strewn over the floor half an inch deep. In addition to this the walls were marked up and other depredations committed, which show that the perpetrators were actuated only by a low malicious purpose and one which must follow them and brand them as unworthy of admittance into any decent house for all time to come., quoting the Washington Chronicle 7/22/1871
