Text	[Cleveland vs. Cincinnati 4/15/1882] Before leaving home the Cleveland Club were instructed to try and win every game they played on the trip, and in every case to beat each club as badly as possible. This is, not doubt, good League policy, for the reason that if the American clubs could be crippled in the calculation of their patrons in these initiatory games it would cast no gloom among the League managers, who earnestly hope for bankruptcy to befall the new association. The Cleveland made more fuss, did more kicking, and howled louder than if the game had been the deciding one in the League championship. Probably half an hour was consumed by three “kicks,” led every time by that boss of kickers, George Washbuckle Bradley.
