| Text | Manager Bancroft assumed control of the affairs of the ball club yesterday morning and at once decided upon a definite system of field practice which will go into effect to-day. His plan is to place the men in their regular positions, with a pitcher in the box, and a catcher behind the bat, while each man will take a turn with the stick, and in this way the players will put in four hours a day, an order to that effect having been posted up in the club-house. This was one of Captain Glasscock's ideas and it promises to result in training the men in the best possible manner. A system of signs or signals will also be arranged within a few days, and these will be worked upon until the players are perfectly familiar with them. This will be the first step in the direction of good team work, and will be followed with other measures of a similar character, with a view of securing the full strength of the team in championship games. |
