Text | [Pittsburgh vs. Washington 9/14/1889] Owing to the absence of his brother, John Irwin was captain for the day, and he claimed to have discovered Staley's signs to his catcher and he was not slow to give his men the benefit of his acquisition. Brother John, however, could not master the puzzle himself, and out of his five times at bat did not a hit mark his stick work. |
