Text | [Athletics vs. Mutuals 8/20/1867] On the Mutual side, McBride’s dodgy tactic led to all but Waterman having to retire on foul balls–first a hot one, and then one dropped short, bothering the battling calculations of the Mutuals exceedingly, besides which, scarcely a ball would come just where it was wanted, while it was too close to the spot for a liberal umpire like Johnny Grum to call balls on. |
