Text	[New York vs. Pittsburgh 10/01/1889] To add to the fun of the third inning, an affrighted horse attached to a buggy, appeared on the ball field, causing the players to scamper in all directions. The run-away animal took a wild gallop round the field amid the deafening yells of the bleaching-board occupants. Even the rigid discipline of Umpire Lynch had no effect whatever on the wild steed. The horse, however, soon retraced his steps to where he had come from, and made a costly smash up there. This novel performance was taken as an omen of good for the home team, and such it turned out to be.
